Assistant Service Manager

Location: Petworth

As an Assistant Service Manager, you will play a crucial role in driving the success of the service department. Your primary responsibility will be to support the Service Manager in their daily tasks, ensuring the department achieves its goals and meets all targets and objectives effectively.

As an Assistant Service Manager, you will:

  • Support the Service Manager with the day to day running of the department.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with valued customers, ensuring they are always kept up to date with any developments and addressing any concerns and resolving any issues in a professional and timely manner.
  • Assist in managing all aspects of the service team and workshop.
  • Collaborate with the Service Manager to drive revenue growth and profitability through effective upselling and customer retention strategies.
  • Assist the Service Manager to ensure that the Work In Progress is being maintained at a manageable level in line with company policy and all callouts are being managed and optimised.
  • Monitor and improve the aftersales processes, identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Help to monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement corrective actions when necessary to help optimise departmental performance.
  • Assist in developing and implementing strategies to achieve departmental targets and objectives.
  • Help to coordinate with other departments to ensure parts availability and efficient time management
  • Assist with health and safety requirements.
  • Ensure all Service department administration and processes are adhered to
  • Help to mentor and support technicians, particularly apprentices and trainees, to progress their understanding and knowledge.

Essential skills

  • Fantastic communication skills, enabling you to be able to communicate with engineers, customers and colleagues.
  • A motivated and positive approach.
  • Strong computer literacy and knowledge of Microsoft Office (particularly Word and Excel).
  • Attention to detail and high levels of organisation.
  • Have an excellent understanding of the machinery and the seasonal pressure for our customers and the business.
  • Used to working to challenging deadlines in a time sensitive environment.
  • Work well under pressure
  • Experience in a similar managerial role within this industry (or experienced in a transferable relevant industry) or an experienced Engineer looking to step up to management.
